November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month, a time to shine a spotlight on the wonderful older cats and dogs who are so often overlooked in shelters. At the Dutchess County SPCA, we consider pets age 7 and older to be seniors, and throughout November, their adoption fees are 50% off to help them find loving homes faster.
Senior pets have so much to offer. They’re often already trained, have established personalities, and are past the high-energy puppy and kitten stage. Many are content to curl up beside you, enjoy leisurely walks, and bring a calm, comforting presence to your home. What they want most is to share their golden years with someone who will love them as much as they love in return.
Unfortunately, senior animals are among the last to be adopted and can spend months waiting for a second chance. By opening your heart and home to a senior pet, you’re giving them that chance, and in return, you’ll gain a loyal companion with a lifetime of love to give.
