About the Role
As a Veterinary Assistant, you’ll work closely with our Veterinarians and Licensed Veterinary Technicians to ensure the health and well-being of animals in our care. From assisting with surgeries and daily rounds to administering medications and educating adopters, this is a dynamic and hands-on role perfect for someone with a heart for animals.
Key Responsibilities

Assist with exams, dental procedures, surgeries, and immunizations

Restrain animals for medical procedures

Administer oral, topical, and injectable medications

Maintain clean, sanitary conditions in medical and shelter areas

Prepare prescriptions and perform routine lab work

Update treatment records in the shelter and veterinarian database

Provide excellent customer service to adopters, fosters, and volunteers

Support with inventory, restocking, and clerical tasks
What We’re Looking For

Minimum 2 years of experience in animal medical care (shelter experience preferred)

Comfortable handling animals of unknown or difficult temperament
-
Familiarity with common companion animal diseases and treatment protocols
-
Professional, compassionate, and team-oriented
-
Able to recognize and report medical or behavioral issues
-
Reliable and self-directed, with strong communication skills

Technical & Physical Requirements

Familiarity with veterinarian and shelter management software and Google Workspace

Able to lift up to 50 lbs and push up to 150 lbs regularly

Comfortable standing, bending, and walking for extended periods
-
Willingness to work with potential allergens

Lead Animal Shelter Kennel Technician
About the Role

Guided by the ASV (Association of Shelter Veterinarians) Guidelines and best practices in the industry, we ensure that each animal receives humane care, appropriate enrichment, and responsible placement decisions.
The Lead Animal Shelter Kennel Technician plays a vital role in upholding these standards by ensuring the daily care, cleanliness, and well-being of our dogs. This position works collaboratively with our leadership, behavior, and medical teams to maintain a safe, positive, and enriching environment for every dog in our care while supporting responsible adoption practices that prioritize both animal welfare and community safety.

This position is responsible for:

Leading and supporting the dog care team to ensure consistent, high-quality daily care for all dogs.

Upholding and enforcing shelter protocols for cleaning, feeding, enrichment, and handling in alignment with ASV Guidelines.

Monitoring the health, behavior, and well-being of dogs and communicating concerns promptly to leadership, medical, and behavior teams.

Promoting a safe, positive, and humane environment for dogs, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Ensuring that all practices support responsible adoptions and prioritize public safety.

Assisting in the training and development of animal care staff to maintain professional standards and compassion in care.

Coordinating with leadership to ensure proper inventory, organization, and maintenance of dog housing areas.

Serving as a role model for teamwork, professionalism, and adherence to the shelter’s mission and best-practice principles.

Knowledge of ASV Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters (link) and commitment to implementing best practices.

Working Conditions

Frequent bending, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods.

Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform other physically demanding tasks as required.

Regular exposure to animals with varying temperaments and to outdoor weather conditions.

Comfortable walking dogs and maintaining outdoor runs in all weather conditions.

Routine use of cleaning agents, disinfectants, and other shelter maintenance materials.​​​​

Compensation:
