Tips and Ideas for Raising Funds for the DCSPCA

Thank you for your interest in helping raise funds and collect items that will help the animals that live at the Dutchess County SPCA. You can hold a yard sale, table outside a local store or business or hold a food or supply drive. Please view our tips sheets by clicking on a link below, or contact us for additional information.

Volunteer Orientation

Volunteer Orientations are held the first Tuesday of every month, 7:00pm., at the shelter.

At the Orientation you will be given a tour of the facilities, an overview of our Volunteer Program and an information packet.

Please call 845-454-5345 Ext. 103 to sign up for orientation. Leave your name and number for a confirmation call or you can e-mail the Volunteer Coordinator at dcspcavc@optonline.net to sign up.

To volunteer at the shelter, you must be at least fourteen (14) years of age and be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian. To work directly with the animals you must be at least eighteen (18) years of age (due to liability).

Sponsor-A-Cage

Nobody likes a cage. But for an animal on the streets, abandoned, hungry, hurt or abused, a cage is a welcome haven and, a place of hope

What Your Gift Means For The Animals.

• A healthy diet, fresh water and soft, warm bedding.
• Life-saving medical care and vaccinations.
• Spay or neuter surgery. Rehabilitation for abused and “special needs” animals.
• A cozy place to call their own while they wait to be adopted

As a sponsor, your contribution will help us to provide care, shelter, and most of all hope for a new life to these wonderful animals who wait for a second chance at love and a second chance at the dream of their own loving home. Only with your contribution can we continue to offer our life saving services to the needy animals in our community. The animal residents of the DCSPCA are counting on you to help. Special Needs Animal…$50/month or $600/year

The cage you sponsor will have a plaque with your name or any name you choose. Other ideas for your personal plaque:

• Remember a loved one or beloved pet.

Donations

The Dutchess County SPCA relies heavily on private donations to maintain the shelter and support the needs of the homeless animals in our care.

We are a 501(c) (3) non profit organization. Donations may be tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Please check with your tax preparer for details.

A repository of funds to cover medical costs above and beyond the usual. Project H.O.P.E.
provides the funds for surgery, healthcare and medical treatment to otherwise adoptable animals.

United Way

The DCSPCA is an approved agency under the United Way’s Donor Choice program. You may direct your donations to us through this program. (Please note that this is the only means through which we receive United Way funds.)

SEFA & CFC Donors

Work for the Federal or State Government? We’re in those programs too! We are listed for both SEFA (State Employees Federated Appeal) and CFC (Combined Federal Program).

Vehicle Donations

You can make a real contribution to the Dutchess County SPCA with a car donation. Would you like to be rid of an automobile you no longer want or use but don't want to go through the trouble of selling it? Make an automobile donation to us. It's an incredibly fast and easy way to help support the vital work we do.

When you donate your car to the Dutchess County SPCA the automobile is taken care of for free with no paperwork hassle.

Bequests

You can name the DCSPCA as a beneficiary by creating a new will, adding a codicil to your present will, or including the DCSPCA in your revocable trust.

The DCSPCA can be named as a direct beneficiary of:
• A specific sum of money
• A specific asset such as stock or property
• A percentage of an estate

The DCSPCA may also be named as a beneficiary of a:
• Life insurance policy
• Retirement account
• Bank account
• Living or testamentary trust

Project: Helping Our Pets Endure

Meet Bella!

Bella came to the shelter with a wonderful attitude but an inability to walk more than a few steps without having to lay down. Lyme disease was suspected, but quickly ruled out. Further tests indicated that Bella had not only two bad hips, but also two bad elbows causing her pain whenever she walked.

Bella was an ideal candidate for Project:H.O.P.E., a special fund that helps cats and dogs with extraordinary medical needs. The fund was developed to finance medical treatment that is beyond the normal scope of what we budget for routine animal care. Our goal is to help animals like Bella have a chance at realizing a normal happy life. These animals would probably be euthanized at other shelters, but being dedicated to the preservation of life, we offer an alternative.

How does Project: H.O.P.E. work?

• First a candidate is identified and evaluated for prognosis and most importantly, quality of life after intervention. The candidate is presented to our Animal Welfare Committee who will oversee the animal’s treatment and recovery.

• We then search for the best price for the necessary treatment. This includes contacting local vets or even out of the area specialists.

• A recovery plan is put in place. What type of rehabilitation will the animal need? Will the animal need a foster home during the recovery period?

Funding for Bella’s surgeries and recovery came from the Project: H.O.P.E. fund. Today, Bella lives with her new family, David, Kathy, Sean and Kevin who tell us that Bella doesn’t realize that she’s too big to be a lap dog. At night she won’t settle down until all family members are in bed. Your donations to Project: H.O.P.E. make success stories like Bella’s possible.

Your Membership Helps Us:

• Help over 1,500 animals annually on their way to a better life by adopting them to new homes, placing them in foster care or reuniting owners with their lost pets.
  
  
• Provide emergency assistance via our community Pet Food Pantry to low income and needy families, allowing them to keep their beloved pets.
  
  
• Employ Dutchess County's only Humane Law Enforcement Officers. Our officers handle approximately 3,000 calls each year, resulting in numerous cruelty investigations and arrests. Our officers remove animals from inhumane and dangerous situations, offering them a second chance at life.
  
  
• Promote Humane Education for Dutchess County school children as part of their daily school curriculum. Early humane education is proven to help end the cycle of abuse and violence (both domestic and animal) in the home.
  
  
• Offer a last chance for animals that would be deemed unadoptable at many shelters. We also reach out to local animal control agencies and area shelters by offering adoption assistance. The DCSPCA is proud to be a leader in the fight against needless euthanasia.
