November 18, 2010 More than 100 people joined us at our Ground Break celebration. There is much site preparation work that needs to take place before more visible construction projects can begin.

Thanks to dedicated friends like you, we are pleased to announce that the Dutchess County SPCA has reached its goal of $3,000,000 to build the new Adoption and Education Center. Your gift helped to make this possible. We, and the animals in our care, are deeply grateful to you.

As can happen in projects as dynamic and visionary as this one, the costs have increased since we announced the $3 million price tag. Therefore, we will continue our efforts to raise funds and we hope donors like you will join us as we endeavor to complete the project without taking on any debt. The building is planned to house 200 cats and 30 dogs, along with birds and pocket pets such as ferrets and gerbils. These are in addition to the existing kennels and cat rooms. The project greatly expands the DCSPCA's ability to house adoptable animals. The Adoption and Education Center will be built on the DCSPCA's Hyde Park property, a short distance away from the current facility.

We remain committed to the overall vision of our Master Site Plan. One future project is the renovation of the existing shelter into an Animal Services Center. The aging building is structurally sound and will, when the work is done, serve the community as an intake facility for animals needing rescue and as a spay/neuter clinic for the public's cats. Another project involves adding up to a mile of walking trails for the public to enjoy the natural habitat on the property.

We hope you will stay in touch with us as we grow.
